Types of sleep disorders and its Symptoms

There are numerous types of sleep disorders. They can be categorized
by behaviors, issues with your regular sleep-wake cycles, breathing issues,
difficulty falling asleep, or how sleepy you feel during the day. 

There are more than 80 different sleep disorders. Some major types include:

  • Insomnia
  • Sleep Apnea
  • Narcolepsy
  • Restless leg syndrome
  • Shift Work Disorder
  • Parasomnias


Different sleeping disorders have differing levels and types of symptoms. They may also differ when sleep disturbances are caused by another condition.


  • difficulty falling or staying asleep
  • daytime fatigue
  • strong urge to take naps during the day
  • unusual breathing patterns
  • unusual or unpleasant urges to move while falling asleep
  • unusual movement or other experiences while asleep
  • unintentional changes to your sleep/wake schedule
  • irritability or anxiety
  • impaired performance at work or school
  • lack of concentration
  • depression
  • weight gain
